There will be a memorial service on April 29 @ Lions Club Hall in Gulfport, FL from
5:30 - 8:30 with musical tributes and flower petals into the bay at sunset for those
would like to attend. A private gathering for family has already been arranged right
after. Valerie died of a massive coronary after suffering these last few years from
heart problems. Thank you for all your love and support from Valerie's family.
The above invitation is on The Original Valerie Carter Fan Page in Facebook. I am
asking that all of you, close friends and family try to be there a few minutes before
5 PM. It's going to be hot that day, 90 degrees or so, hopefully we'll have a breeze
off of the cooler waters and inside is air conditioned. With that in mind, do the
Florida thing and dress beach casual. Nice shorts are fine. If you want to bring
liquor or beer that is fine. The mixers and all drinks in ice coolers will be on
the back patio as requested by the Lions. So, there will be a "bar" set up back
there and soft drinks, ice tea, water available and coffee from the kitchen window.
A full buffet will be open with all kinds of goodies. There will opportunity for
anyone who wants to say a few words to do so, but no one is expected to or will
be "put on the spot".
We will have the great pleasure of listening to fine playing and singing by Valerie's
musical partner and fellow road warrior, Rob Tyre. We are also SO very lucky that
her famous fellow writer and singer, Jude Johnstone has so graciously come from
Nashville to play for Valerie's family, friends and fans. We also have our hometown
and Tampa favorite singers, Liz Hollister and Janelle Sandler, Bill Simpson, Darrin
Joy, and so many other luminaries! We are so happy to get to hear them and appreciate
their love for Valerie.
While Val's passing has left a hole in our hearts we are going to remember all the
good parts, the happy times and celebrate her many victories and successes in life.
I hope this will be a good service and tribute to my lovely sister. May she rest
in peace and be singing happily again.
Thank you all for your love for her and your loving support for her friends and
May we be there for each other and we thank you for being with us,
--- Dotty and Jan Carter
